Binge-able shows, perfect for staying indoor to watch.

Lockdown Life and binge-able shows

The UK much like the rest of the world is in lockdown and, what better way to spend your days than with your feet up watching, playing, or reading the days away. Not sure where to start on some new shows? We’ve got you covered with a handy selection of some extremely binge-able shows!

Miranda

This is a BBC comedy show I only discovered a couple of weeks ago – of course, I’d heard of it, and seen adverts for it, but it had never appealed to me. But, as we were in lockdown, we decided to give it a try while it was still on Netflix/Iplayer, and boy did it not disappoint!

Miranda had me practically rolling off the sofa with laughter – I was literally in hysterics the whole way through – while also had me nodding in agreement to so many things. The show was so relatable, to the point where I came to the conclusion that I’m just a few years away from basically being Miranda, just minus a lovely Gary (Tom Ellis, AKA the guy who plays Lucifer on Lucifer) to fall in love with!

Miranda is just three seasons long, and every episode is only half an hour long. I managed to watch it in a weekend, and I’m now clambering to watch it again!

Westworld

Westworld is a show that is binge-able in a completely different way – it’s a sci-fi show all about a park filled with sentient robots, and what happens when they ‘wake up’ and find up that they’re basically being used for the entertainment of humans.

To say that this show is a complete mind-screw is an understatement – every episode brings new plot points, new plot twists, and plot reveals that will leave your head spinning. I highly recommend watching every season twice – one, so you can get a proper idea of just what’s happened, and two, so you can catch all the foreshadowing you missed the first time around! You certainly will not be bored watching Westworld!

Trigger warnings for murder, rape, blood/gore, nudity, drinking, drug taking, and general violence.

Star Trek Next-Gen

I didn’t grow up on Star Trek. I only got into it around the time Star Trek Into Darkness was released. Thanks to Khan being played by Benedict Cumberbatch. But what I did grow up on was the X-Men, and so I have a great appreciation for Patrick Stewart.

I always knew he’d been in Star Trek, but I wasn’t particularly bothered until Picard was announced. I want to watch it, but without watching the original Next Generation series, I knew I wouldn’t understand a thing. So, I’ve set about watching the entirety of Star Trek Next Generation, and Voyager, to make sure I understand everything in Picard!

I am loving watching it so far! I’ve gotten up to season 6 and it’s brilliant! I will say that the first season is a bit of a slog, and of course, the special effects are nowhere near as good as what I’m used to, but it’s still a great show.

It’s a relaxing show to watch – even when it looks like the Borg are going to start a war. Maybe because it’s set so far into the future?  Maybe it’s because Patrick Stewart is so calming to watch? I have no idea. But there is nothing I love more than sitting down of an evening and putting on another episode of Next Generation. I cannot recommend it enough! There are nearly 200 episodes to watch, too, so you’re not going to run out in a hurry!

Trigger warnings – mentions of war,, AI robots, kidnapping, murder, peril, death of characters.

Good Omens

I know the world is a scary place right now. It feels a little like everything is ending, but Good Omens, for me, is the perfect binge-able show to watch right now.

Admittedly, I am biased towards it, as I am a big fan of Sir Terry Pratchett, and have been in love with at least 50% of the cast since I was a child. But, watching an angel and a demon scramble around to find the antichrist before the literal apocalypse cheers me right up when I’m feeling hopeless.

The show is smart, funny, and an easy watch at only six episodes. If you like it, there’s also the book to read as well. So really, it’s a double whammy of entertainment!

Once Upon a Time (TV series) -

Once Upon A Time

I’m a big fan of fairytale retellings! I was never a big Disney fan as a kid, but, in recent years, I will eat up any retelling I can get my hands on, and Once Upon A Time is the motherload in terms of retellings!  OUAT follows characters such as Snow White and Prince Charming, Rumplestiltskin, The Beast and Belle, Captain Hook and Peter Pan, and so, so, so, many more, as the characters are put under a spell and transported to our world – with no idea exactly who they are. The only person who can save them is The Saviour – the daughter of True Love. Who doesn’t believe any of it is real.

To say I loved this show is an understatement, it was brilliant! It was filled with plot twists and character cameos (an entire season is dedicated to Elsa, another dedicated to The Wicked Witch Of The West). There’s even a musical episode with brilliant songs that will get stuck in your head for days!

This show is definitely fun for all the family and has something for everyone. There’s magic, battles, princesses, engaging plotlines (and, if we’re honest, some very nice looking men, including Sebastian Stan!). I loved this series so much, I want everyone to give it a shot!

Trigger warnings: Character death, curses, abuse, murder, adoption, prison.

I could go on forever, but these are some of my best binge-able shows available now. I hope you find at least one you love on this list! Let us know in the comments what you are watching.
