The Queen of Gotham is here
Margot Robbie plays HQ like no other and we are finally seeing her. We finally meet Harleen, Harleen the daughter, Harleen the Doctor and Harleen the heartbroken victim of a toxic abusive relationship. Then, in a multicoloured explosion, we see Harley- new Queen of Gotham City. Harley has some heartbreakingly real moments. Gone is the manic pixie dream girl Harley Quinn and here, here is a Harley with layers. Christina Hodson, we salute you
Her plight is painfully relatable for so many people. Alright, it might be way more exaggerated but relatable. Feelings of betrayal, feeling unwanted, dismissed, cast aside and treated badly like toxic individuals.
Chaotic energies x 10
Ewan Mcgreggor’s, Sionis, is another top tier performance. He attacks the role with as much sleazy over the top, spoilt grease ball as possible and its brilliant. His performance is the only other chaotic energy that really matches up to Margots and they play off each other well.
I welcome these larger than life comic characters, this is one of the first DC films that has even really captured my attention. Cassandra Cain, Huntress, Black Canary and Detective Montoya make Gotham’s best girl band. They compliment one another, hold some level of respect for one another. But mainly want to just rile each other. Like a great glittering family.
The Birds of Prey Soundtrack is a masterpiece
One thing that dud not need to go as hard, is the Birds of Prey soundtrack. And for that I am thankful. It is absolutely amazing, these are battle cries, mixed with the super slick fast cuts, the graffiti on screen graphics and you’ve got the best music video you’ll ever see.
The action scenes in Birds of Prey are so considered and choreographed. The glitter bombs, bat twirling, roller skating and giant mallets all just elevate Birds of Prey to being of the the most fun movies to come out of DC EVER.
Birds of a feather
The manic energy may be more at home with ACADEMY AWARD WINNER Taika Waititi’s Thor Ragnarok than say Batman Begins. However, if Deadpool and Logan can coexist in a universe, then so can Birds of Prey and the Brooding bat.
Birds of Prey is the perfect valentines day film. Grab your squad, get the glitter, a disgusting amount of cinema snacks and hit the pictures. It is 1hr47 mins of pure leg breaking fun and catharsis.
