“Generation after generation, people are taught one thing-never ever use magic”

Candles, what’s it about?

A plague known as Dark-bark begins to spread over the land, one by one infected villages disappear into the enchanted forest never to be seen again. When a plague-ridden beast reaches the village, a young girl is prepared to do whatever it takes to protect her family, even if that involves the use of the forbidden magics.

Gorgeous visuals guaranteed

Something, you can undoubtedly count on with anything Lyndon creates is how gorgeous it will be. Each individual panel is a work of art, from the character designs to the backgrounds. There is a flow to the characters that keeps the pacing and action moving forward perfectly in tune with the narrative.

An intricate story in a vast world

For this preview, we read the first 30 pages of Candles‘ 144 pages. It is an engaging and intricate story set in an exciting world. At 144 pages this is going to be a seriously epic adventure. I am glad that Candles has found a great home with Cast Iron Books and it will undoubtedly be a great hit. Candles is an all-ages fantasy adventure about family and magic.

A Ghibli-Esque adventure

Candles really reminded me of a Studio Ghibli movie, and that is by no means a criticism. The beautiful blending of nature and magic is like Howl’s Moving Castle or Princess Mononoke. With that being said, Candles doesn’t feel like ‘just another fantasy adventure’, it is a nuanced complex story with so much heart and depth.

Fans of Ghibli, fairy tales and RPG adventures will undoubtedly fall in love with Candles
