Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood is launching as part of the Greenlight Initiative, a new in-house crowdfunding platform that is designed to give the creators more control over their projects, direct connection to the audience through newsletters and discord groups, and allows book to get to their readers faster.

No one likes meeting the in-laws, right? It is always an uncomfortable, awkward, unnatural charade. John and Lisa know the feeling. Upon receiving a letter from his mother about the failing heath of his estranged father, John is asked to meet with his family at their local parish. Lisa, desperate to know any details she can about this murky period in her partner’s life encourages John to go. He has one condition, however: Lisa must come with him.

Forgive me Father, for I have Sinned

Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood is beautiful. Sorry to give the goods away up front, but I couldn’t help it. EMFDMB is an object lesson in just how well horror and religious rights can blend when in the right hands, and oh heck are they in the right hands here. Talking with creator, talent machine, and all round excellent human Frankee White, I asked what made them err toward this genre. Frankee responded that “Horror is where my heart is”, and you can see that dedication and love in every page.

John and Lisa are real, genuine people – they aren’t flat characters there for dialogue and plot choices, they feel truly real. They could be your neighbours, they could be your friends. At one point even, Lisa is nonchalently talking to herself as she walks around the house. John is at his desk painting minis. It’s like I’m reading about my own life, except so much more beautifully drawn.

That being said, my parents are really nice. John’s, however, are not. John’s family are introduced and in one panel, you know exactly what kind of people they are, and it isn’t the nice kind. Familial strife is no easy thing to balance in writing, especially when you bring religion and true love into the mix, but the EMFDMB team seem to make this tightrope walk look effortless.

Eat My Flesh

The Devil, they say, is in the details. EMFDMB does so well with nuance it feels like the Devil is on every page…and they just might be. Even the title of Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood gives us a gorgeous, macabre confluence of gore and ritual, letting you know from the off just what you might be getting yourself into. With its sweeping panoramas and sinister colour palette, EMFDMB sets its tone out early. It doesn’t let up for a second, and I already want more. If you’re a fan of The Autumnalthen I reckon EMFDMB will be right up your street.

Drink My Blood

As you would imagine, the creators put it best. Frankee describes Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood as “something totally unique”. It’s funny, it’s scary, it’s unnerving and it plumbs the soul for all those difficult to reconcile feelings. EMFDMB is one to watch, but then given that it’s from the team behind Broken Bear, that’s no surprise. A must-read for anyone as into horror and religion as I am, EMFDMB is already ticking every box I can think of. Pre-order now, I promise you won’t regret it.
