Release Date: 26th June 2020
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is the absolute definition of a ‘feel-good film’. I challenge you not to crack a smile. Starring Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, and Dan Stevens, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga is about Icelandic duo Sigrid and Lars, and their journey to the titular Eurovision Song Contest. They face some really, REALLY unbelievable obstacles on their journey, from exploding boats to some artistic differences.
Being a film about Eurovision, it’s exactly as glittery and as camp, as you’d expect. However, given the current climate, it’s exactly the kind of balm to soothe life’s jagged edges. The outfits and the ‘sing-along’-style megamix alone are worth watching for.
Will Ferrell excels at this kind of comedy and it gave me great flashbacks to Blades Of Glory. However, it was Rachel McAdams and Dan Stevens who stole every scene. Dan Stevens’, playing the role of a Russian singer and Eurovision superstar, wears outfits in every scene that are simply phenomenal, and I want them all.
Not going to break any records
Admittedly it has some moments you could be forgiven for fast-forwarding, just let the glitter and the Euro-tunes wash over you. This is a film about chasing your dreams and believing in yourself. There may be some bumps along the way but with the support of your friends and a crazy bit of courage, you’ll be fine. Oh, and don’t forget your best spangly outfit, of course!
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga isn’t going to break any records but it’s great to stick on, feet up, grab a beer, switch off your mind and enjoy.
